NORCROSS - A Gwinnett police negotiator talked a rape suspect out of his Norcross area apartment Saturday while a SWAT team was en route to the scene, officials said.
Carlos Augusto Flores, 29, faces aggravated assault, kidnapping, rape and aggravated sodomy charges stemming from an alleged 1 a.m. attack at a complex on Lia Hills Drive, near Brook Hollow Parkway. Flores approached an 18-year-old woman while she was sitting outside her apartment, then forced her at knife-point into his apartment, where he sexually assaulted her, according to his arrest warrants. "The victim was able to flee the apartment and call 911 after (Flores) left the room that they were in," said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli. When police responded, Flores reportedly refused to leave his home. "A negotiator talked (him) out of the apartment before SWAT showed up," Schiralli said. Flores remains in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond, awaiting a probable cause hearing. He did not know the alleged victim, according to a police report.More like this story
