Gwinnett Daily Post
The Daily Post won six awards in the 2008 Georgia Associated Press Association contest announced last month, including first place for best sports feature photo by photo editor Jason Braverman.
Braverman won for his Super Six football portrait of Norcross High's Prince Kent, which made creative use of Polaroid pictures. He also won second-place honors for best portfolio and best picture story and placed third in spot news.
The picture story, titled "Braving the pain," was about Tyler Avery, a 12-year-old boy with a rare mitochondrial disease. Avery is constantly in pain due to his body's inability to use energy correctly and spent more than 100 days in the hospital last year.
Graphics editor Nicole Puckett and Braverman were also honored in the photo illustration category, earning second- and third-place awards. They placed second for the Gwinnett Gladiators season preview and third for a Friday Kickoff section featuring Grayson's football team.
The Daily Post competes in Class AAAA, the state's largest classification.
