Gwinnett Daily Post
DULUTH - Arriba la raza.
This Spanish phrase, which roughly translates in English as "We are for the people," will likely be repeated throughout the day Sunday as Gwinnett residents are invited to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Hispanic radio station La Raza 102.3/100.1 FM.
The regional Spanish holiday, celebrated on the fifth of May, commemorates the Mexican army's defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. In the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has become a day celebrating Mexican heritage.
On Sunday, La Raza 102.3/100.1 FM will host its fifth annual Cinco de Maya festival with music, food, petting zoos, vendors and sponsors giving away free loot, clowns, carnival rides and more.
"It's very, very well received here in the community," La Raza promotions director Christian Hernandez said. "It's a day to go out with the family and have a good time."
The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the festival, call 770-623-8772.
