JEFFERSON - The Jackson County Board of Education has approved several cutbacks, including eliminating nearly 40 positions, cutting programs and furloughing 12-month employees for five days, Superintendent Shannon Adams said Thursday.
The school system's reduction in force plan includes the elimination of three middle school graduation coaches, a middle school Spanish teacher, two elementary school fine arts teachers and the assistant superintendent for human resources and support services, Adams said. The layoffs will save more than $1.1 million, Adams said. If the district receives any stimulus money, some of the positions will be restored. The furloughs will save the district about $110,000.More like this story
