ATLANTA - Two area women recently received the Laura Snitzer-Boozer Award, which honors nurses who have demonstrated professional excellence and leadership in pediatric cancer care.
Katie Morrison of Suwanee and Stephanie Wilson, a Gwinnett native, are both registered nurses at the Aflac Cancer Center of Children's at Egleston and are enrolled in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner programs at local universities. "This award provides financial support for continued education in the field of oncology and will honor them as they continue their enrollment in their Pediatric Nurse Practitioner programs," Jennifer Reid of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta said. Morrison received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. Wilson received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and is enrolled in the PNP program at Georgia State University, where she expects to graduate in December. Both women said they are "honored" to receive the award. "I am grateful to have a job I love and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to care for these amazing patients and families," Morrison said. "Daily am I thankful to serve such wonderful patients and families alongside a strong, supportive staff," Wilson said. The award is named for Laura Snitzer Boozer, an Aflac Cancer Center nurse who died unexpectedly in 1999.More like this story
