Cameron Kawa won the 46-pound state championship in the 6-and-under division at the Little Kids State Wrestling Championships last weekend.
Kawa, who is the son of former Shiloh three-time state champ Dustin Kawa, was one of 10 county champs as Gwinnett County had 25 state placers. In the 8-and-under division, Garrett Spikes (61 pounds), William Formato (64), Harrison Spikes (90), Gavin Smith (70) and Logan Smith (75) won state titles. Jack Barber (79), Keison Forte (95), Ian Statia (58) and Quinn Miller (103) won 10-and-under state titles. Vincent Thomas (70) and Trey Williams (65) placed second in the 6-and-under division. In the 8-and-under division, Gabriel Lee (67), Tristan Bozoian (70) and Robert Scott (135) were second. Cole Birkbeck (120) placed third and Arturo Pedraza (120) was fourth. Christopher Diaz (85) and Miles Nolan (140) were second in the 10-and-under division. Ian Jenkins (112), Michael Cole (61), Caleb Mitchell (79) and Colin Scott (160) were third. Aiden Jarrett (120) and Hunter Allen (85) placed fourth. BASKETBALL Hebron completes undefeated season The 9-and-10 year-old Hebron Lions won both the regular season title and tournament titles this season. The Lions went 10-0 in the regular season and won all their of their playoff games to finish 13-0. Team players are Godwin Deroseney, Devin Long, Parker McCombs, Caleb Moss, Kenny Severe, Shane Smith, and Brian Wilkerson. The team was coached by Ronnie Moss and Bryan Smith. SOCCER AFU teams win titles The Atlanta Fire United Elite and Atlanta Fire United Gold won their divisions at the Red Diamond Vulcan Cup on March 15 in Birmingham, Ala. AFU Elite defeated Ambush Red (Ga.) 1-0 to win the Girls U12 Gold championship. Team members are Kendall Welkley, Katie Strand, Brooke Horist, Samantha Helmink, Amanda Delgado, Dena Cisic, Desiree Bowen, Monica Millard, Lauren Navas, Mia Edmond, Raina Davis, Melissa Pagoaga, Devin Gaskill, Kelsey Lawrence, Anela Melton and Brie Smith. The team is coached Ryan Austin. AFU Gold beat Tennessee Futbol Blue to claim the Girls U14 Copper title.More like this story
