Prep Roundup: Brookwood shines at Disney meet

Six Brookwood track and field athletes had first-place finishes this past weekend at the Disney Track and Field Showcase in Orlando.

Berkmar's Victoria Hines also placed first in the girls 100 hurdles in 15.70 seconds.

Brookwood's LaSalle Ledlum won the triple jump at 41 feet, 8 inches and teammates Emily Brewer (34-21/2) and Jordan Thompson (49-91/2) swept the shot put. Brewer also was runner-up in the discus at 110-7.

The Broncos also got a first-place finish from Tommy George in the 3,200 (9:47.72), as well as a runner-up showing in that race from Tyler Anyan (10:02.98).

Brookwood won two relays, including the 1,600 relay (3:29.30) with the foursome of Trey Hochgertle, Sean Hitchens, Rashaan Johnson and Kyle Walcott. Carter Hewitt, Hitchens, Sean Brennan and George teamed up for a win in the 3,200 relay (8:19.57).

Mason Howington (discus, 132-9), Matt Caldwell (high jump, 6-4), Jasmine Billings (100 hurdles, 15.83), Robert Edwards (110 hurdles, 15.00) and Alex Pena (2,000 steeplechase, 6:48.00) added runner-up finishes for the Broncos.


Eagles, Hawks take titles at Georgia Challenge

Paced by seven individual event winners, the Collins HIll girls and Mill Creek boys track teams claimed team titles in their respective divisions at the Georgia Challenge meet last weekend at Mill Creek.

Collins Hill's girls got individual first-place finishes by Symone Glover in the 100-meter dash (12.90 seconds), Nicky Akande in the 800 (2:21.75), Sydney Williams in the 200 (27.16), Amanda Winslow in the 3,200 (10:44.12) and the 1,600 relay team (4:05.14) to roll up 128.25 points, easily outpointing runner-up Mill Creek's total of 61.75.

Meanwhile, Mill Creek's boys had Michael Kopinski (13-0 in the pole vault) and Ryan Robinson (54-6 in the shot put) win their events to help pace the Hawks total of 100 points, 17 points better than Parkview's runner-up total of 73.

Other individuals from Gwinnett schools with first-place finisheds included Carson Simpson of Mill Creek (9-0) in the girls pole vault, Darrly Marlow of Norcross in the boys long jump (21-7.50), T.J. Davilmar of Dacula in the boys discus (142-11), Suzee Mills of Mill Creek in the girls shot put (36-1), North Gwinnett's 400-meter relay team (10:01.45), Melissa Stephenson of Parkview in the girls 400 (1:00.85), Eric Brown of Parkview in the boys 100 (11.54), Joe Sokohl of Collins Hill in the boys 800 (2:01.57) and Parkview's boys 1,600 relay team (3:35.99).
