Duluth fire ruled arson

DULUTH - Gwinnett Fire investigators believe an early morning fire on Greenwich Avenue was intentionally set.

Firefighters were dispatched to a townhome in the 3800 block of Greenwich Avenue at about 7:21 a.m. after a neighbor called 911 to report smoke and flames showing from the window.

Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said crews were able to contain the fire to a single unit, which sustained moderate damage to its interior.

The residence is occupied, but no one was home at the time of the fire, Rutledge said.

Investigators declined to get into specifics but said evidence at the scene pointed toward arson. The investigation is ongoing.

Rutledge said anyone with information is asked to call the Gwinnett Fire Arson and Explosives Section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.

Georgia Arson Control offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson.
