SUWANEE - The Gwinnett County Board of Education on Thursday named new principals for R.L. Norton Elementary and Pinckneyville Middle schools.
Daundria Phillips, an assistant principal at Fort Daniel Elementary, was selected to replace Norton Elementary principal Robert Peterson, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Phillips graduated in 2008 from Gwinnett County Public Schools' Quality-Plus Leader Academy, the school district's training program for aspiring principals. She has a master's degree in early childhood education from Mercer University, as well as certification in gifted education and educational leadership administration and supervision.
Wanda Yeargin, the district's director of school operations and support, will fill the vacancy at Pinckneyville Middle as principal Nancy Martin is transferring to lead Central Gwinnett High.
Yeargin, who has a specialist's degree in educational administration, served as principal at Summerour Middle from 1989 to 1996 and led Richard Hull Middle from 1996 to 1999. She has also served as a staffing director, executive director of school leadership and executive director of academic support.
