Tim Watkins, the athletic director and boys basketball coach at Archer High School, announced the remainder of the new school's coaching hires on Wednesday.
Among the head varsity coaches at the school - which is slated to open in August - is Ryan Lesniak as the Tigers' girls basketball coach. Lesniak, a Shiloh grad, was an assistant this past season at South Gwinnett, but coached previously at Grayson.
Central Gwinnett's Kris Daniels was named the Archer softball coach, while the soccer coaches will be Jamie Wellington (boys) and Brian Zirbel (girls). Steve Messig is the head volleyball coach.
The other head coaching hires include John McCormick (boys track), Pam Autrey (boys tennis, co-swimming), Shannon Wilson (co-swimming), Stacy White (girls tennis), Kyle Williams (golf), Lauren Crowe (girls cross country) and Jennifer Muyres (cheerleading).
Those coaches join previously announced Archer head coaches Watkins, Andy Dyer (football), Chris Hays (baseball) and Tom Beuglas (wrestling).
"We are very impressed and pleased with the staff we have assembled at Archer," Watkins said. "All of the coaches are very excited about helping build what is going to be a great school."
Berkmar's Brooks steps down
Berkmar is looking for a new head girls basketball coach with the recent resignation of Tamara Brooks, who was the Patriots' head coach for two seasons.
Brooks, who replaced Randy Gowen prior to the 2007-08 season, had a 48-11 record at Berkmar. Her final team was 24-5, but was upset by Duluth in the first round of the Class AAAAA state tournament.
Of the Patriots' five losses, two came to Final Four participant Parkview and two came to Duluth. Berkmar also is the only team to beat Parkview (30-1) this season.
