DACULA - Gwinnett County police said a second person has died from injuries suffered in a Monday afternoon single-vehicle accident on Alcovy Road near Ewing Chapel Road.
The driver, 55-year-old Demetra Lamb of Lawrenceville, died at Gwinnett Medical Center shortly after the 4:50 p.m. accident, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli. The passenger, 74-year-old Ellen Locklear of Dacula, died later. "The car was heading southbound and, for reasons unknown at this time, left the roadway, hit an embankment and went airborne," Schiralli said Monday. Lamb and Locklear, neither of whom were wearing a seatbelt, were ejected from the 2001 BMW X5 sport utility vehicle, Schiralli said. The vehicle flipped several times. Schiralli said this is the ninth fatality his department has worked in 2009, with six of them being single-vehicle wrecks. "A large percentage of those would have survived, had they been wearing their seat belts," he said.More like this story
