Four Gwinnett County Public Schools educators who teach music courses have been recognized by the National Band Association, receiving the organization's "Citation of Excellence Award."
The award is presented to an individual whose ensemble has a history of a distinguished level of accomplishment or to an individual who has made significant contributions to the field. This year's Gwinnett honorees are: * Hunter McRae, Lanier Middle * Tonya A. Millsap, Glenn C. Jones Middle * Warren Stokes, Glenn C. Jones Middle * Mary Wilson, Lanier Middle All four educators received the recognition during the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference held in Savannah. The event, which took place in late January, featured the Creekland Middle School Orchestra, the Glenn C. Jones Middle School Honor Band, the Lanier Middle School Eighth Grade Symphonic Band, the Lanier Middle Percussion Ensemble and the Brookwood High School Honors Orchestra. The National Band Association is the largest band directors' professional organization in the world. It was organized in 1960 to promote the musical and educational significance of bands and is dedicated to the attainment of a high level of excellence for bands and band music.
