LAWRENCEVILLE - Commissioner Mike Beaudreau's citizen committee formed to help solve Gwinnett's ongoing trash debate will hold its final meeting Monday night with one added twist.

The 15-member board wants to hear what the waste haulers think now.

While the first four sessions have allowed residents to chime in with their opinions, Monday's meeting will start with the haulers responding to some questions posed to them by the committee.

According to Mack Perry, one of the members on Beaudreau's "blue ribbon" trash board, the questions went out to haulers Friday so that the businessmen could have the weekend to prepare their responses.

"The first 45 minutes will be for the haulers to respond to our questions and give us their thoughts and the last 45 will be for any citizen who still want to voice their opinions," Perry said.

The meeting begins at

6 p.m. and the committee will discuss its findings from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. This portion of the meeting will also be open to the public to observe.

The group hopes to formulate a report and a set of recommendations for Beaudreau to present to the entire Board of Commissioners sometime in March.

Beaudreau's committee was formed after a Gwinnett County judge in December granted a preliminary injunction sought by two local waste haulers who were being put out of business by the 2008 county solid waste ordinance. Under that plan, two national haulers would have serviced the entire county beginning in 2009.

Gwinnett is currently operating on a 120-day agreement that started Jan. 1 with the nine haulers who service residences in the county. The goal of the committee has been to collect, discuss and recommend ideas for a new solid waste plan that complies with state and federal requirements.
