4 Gwinnett seniors make state team

With the Georgia Dugout Club's Junior Team Georgia having just brought home a championship from the 2009 Sunbelt Baseball Classic, the Senior Team hopes to duplicate that feat.

Four area players will be among that group when the 2009 Senior Sunbelt Baseball Classic gets under way Tuesday in Norman, Okla.

Leading the local contingent is recently graduated Grayson right-handed pitcher Bryan Benzor. He earned first-team All-County honors from the Daily Post earlier this month after leading the Rams' pitching staff with an 8-2 record, a 2.07 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 641/3 innings this spring.

Another Daily Post All-County player will also be on the roster in Collins Hill's Chris McGowan, who was named to the second team after hitting .361 with six home runs, 23 RBIs and a 1.072 OPS for the Eagles.

Joining that pair on Senior Team Georgia are Buford outfielder/right-handed pitcher Josh Rudnik (.347, 3 HR, 18 RBIs), Mill Creek catcher Jacob German (.306, 14 RBIs) and Loganville right-handed pitcher/infielder Casey Shiver.
