FLOWERY BRANCH - To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Sterling on the Lake community, there will be a free concert series throughout the month of June and an Independence Day fireworks show.
The first two weekends of the "Songs 4 Summer" series feature a Jimmy Buffet tribute show by Atlanta's Jeff Pike and oldies performed by The Entertainers. Saturday, the Swingin' Richards will bring classic rock to the green, and on June 27, the Voltage Brothers will perform hits spanning from the 1940s to the Motown era.
The shows feature live music, good food and prizes, city officials said. Those planning to attend the concerts can register for giveaways by texting "concerts" to 41513 or by visiting the information center.
Sterling Life, the community support organization for Sterling on the Lake, will sell concert T-shirts and glow necklaces to benefit local nonprofit organizations. A portion of those proceeds will go to the United Way of Hall County and the Spout Springs Library.
Jennifer Landers, Newland Communities regional marketing director, is pleased with the turnout so far and said the group has received positive feedback on the events.
"It's a birthday celebration and a reflection of what we do at Sterling on a regular basis," Landers said. "It's a very active community with lots of different activities for all different types of families and ages. Our goal is to be the social catalyst of Flowery Branch and southern Hall County."
Guests will also have a chance to tour Sterling on the Lake, named the Master Planned Community of the Year in 2006 by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.
