LAWRENCEVILLE - With governments across Gwinnett slashing budgets to keep taxes constant, a local quasi-governmental business association cut its millage rate.

The board of the Evermore Community Improvement District, the self-taxing group of business owners along U.S. Highway 78, cut the property tax rate from 5 mills to 4.

"In these economic times, it requires us to recognize the taxpayers' concerns and respond to them," board Chairman Forrest Adair said. "This is our effort to evaluate our needs as a CID. We have decided that this reduction is reasonable and prudent."

The CID also voted Friday to pay legal costs for a recent recall, where two board members were ousted, although some board members felt some of the legal fees could have been avoided if some members had not ignored the recall results.
