DULUTH - A pedestrian crossing Steve Reynolds Boulevard in heavy rain Thursday night was struck by two vehicles and killed, police said.
Duluth resident Sophia Garcia-Salina, 29, died at the scene of the 10:11 p.m. crash, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said. Neither driver was injured. Police said Garcia-Salina attempted to cross the boulevard near Old Norcross Road in Duluth and for some reason stopped in a center lane. An eastbound driver of a 2008 Lexus ES350, attempting to turn left into a shopping plaza, struck the woman, forcing her into the left lane, at which point she was struck again by a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire, Spellman said. The victim was wearing dark clothing and did not use a crosswalk, Spellman said. No charges have been filed. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the incident, Spellman said.More like this story
