LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Billy Ray has been nominated for the state's highest court.
Attorney Matt Reeves wrote a letter to former Attorney General Mike Bowers and the Judicial Nominating Commission members encouraging the naming of Ray, a former state senator, to the Georgia Supreme Court. While the commission will create a short list, Gov. Sonny Perdue will appoint the justice to replace Leah Ward Sears, who has resigned her seat on the bench. If he chooses Ray, the Lawrenceville man would become the first Gwinnett County judge to serve on Georgia's highest court.More like this story
