SYRACUSE - The Syracuse Chiefs hit three home runs en route to a 7-1 victory against the Gwinnett Braves. After winning the first two games in the series, the G-Braves (29-23) dropped the final two and split the four-game series at Syracuse (24-25).
The G-Braves avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Van Pope grounded out to Syracuse second baseman Brad Eldred which allowed Brooks Conrad to scamper home. Gwinnett starter James Parr, who was making just his second start since returning from Atlanta, allowed five earned runs in four innings. He was charged with his first loss of the season and is now 0-1 with a 7.30 ERA in three starts with Gwinnett. Reid Gorecki and Clint Sammons each had a pair of hits in the loss. Chiefs' starter Collin Balester pitched seven scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season and is now 3-5 with a 4.11 ERA.
