SNELLVILLE - Police called to break up a fight at a popular Snellville park stumbled upon a cache of drugs in a nearby residence, an official said Monday.
Snellville police responded to the pool area at Briscoe Park about 2:30 p.m. Friday to a fight involving five men and a 15-year-old girl. The quarrel ignited when the girl denied three men's advances, prompting one male teen to reportedly punch her in the face.
Seeing this, the girl's two brothers stepped in, and a brawl ensued, Snellville police Chief Roy Whitehead said.
The three men not related to the girl fled. Police caught one, another later returned to the park, and the third suspect, Jovian Lanus, 20, fled to a residence on Parkside Way, Whitehead said.
Inside the home police located 1.2 ounces of ecstasy, more than two ounces of marijuana and a Glock .45 caliber handgun in a bedroom belonging to Lanus, whom they arrested, Whitehead said. Police also confiscated $720 and paraphernalia in the home, he said.
The three suspects - Lanus and Jeremy Solomon, 19, both of Snellville, and Yaseen Abdulrahmaan, 20, of Douglasville - are charged with possession with intent to distribute ecstasy and marijuana.
Lanus faces additional weapons charges, while Solomon is charged with simple battery for reportedly striking the girl. All three remain without bond in the Gwinnett County Jail.
