"Grease" is sure to be the word at the Fabulous Fox Theatre Aug. 7 through 16. The revival will cruise into Atlanta as part of its national tour.
Audiences can celebrate "Summer Nights" with fan favorites from the original Broadway performance, including "Greased Lightnin'" and "We Go Together," as well as songs from the 1978 motion picture adaptation. "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "You're the One That I Want" will be among the songs featured in the new production, heard for the first time in this Broadway production.
American Idol Taylor Hicks will join the cast on Aug. 11 as Teen Angel, reprising the role from his Broadway debut.
Hicks, a platinum-selling artist and the winner of the fifth season of "American Idol," has added his own flair to the role of Teen Angel. Hicks collaborated on costume design and a signature re-working of Teen Angel's trademark track, "Beauty School Dropout."
While in Atlanta, Hicks will also be performing an intimate set at Smith's Olde Bar on Aug. 16. Fans should expect tracks from the record and a handful of covers he may have performed during his tenure on "American Idol," he said. Hicks views the national tour of Grease as another part of his successful career. The Broadway production coincides with small club support of his recently released album "The Distance."
"It's fun to be able to be Teen Angel one moment and also a singer-songwriter the next," Hicks said.
Hicks hopes to see members of his fan base, the "Soul Patrol," at performances.
"Soul Patrol, back at you," he said.
