Bodies of work<br/> Kudzu Art Zone displays exhibit on human form

The human form is on display at Kudzu Art Zone. Lest you think it's an offshoot of the Bodies exhibit, Bodies of Work features artists' interpretations of the human form.

The latest exhibit at Kudzu features more than 50 pieces of work that represent some rendering of humanity or another distinct form. Featured pieces display talent in a variety of different media, including pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, chalk, graphite, encaustic collage, photography and India ink. The works were guided under the direction of "Figure. Face. Form."

Artists featured in the exhibit include Kudzu members, including the resident artists who occupy the eight studio spaces in-house.

Kudzu member Susan Faircloth, whose graphite piece "Sophie" was awarded an honorable mention in the show, captured her subject during a live sitting with a model. These two 20-minute poses yielded a work alive with sweeping, lively brushwork and strokes, Faircloth said.

Portrait artist Damon Carter judged the pieces and awarded Catherine Susky first place for her portrait of "Andrew," a young boy. Carter noted Susky's technical ability and accuracy in depicting anatomy among the reasons for his decision.

Kudzu Art Zone is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. "A Body of Work - Figure. Face. Form" will be on exhibit until Oct. 4. The exhibit will hang through the Norcross Art Festival Weekend of Oct. 3 and 4.
