DULUTH - Assurant Specialty Property announced Thursday that it was closing two service centers in California and relocating those operations and 250 jobs to its existing service centers in Georgia, Ohio and South Carolina.
Approximately 150 of those jobs are headed to the company's two existing sites in Duluth.
The move comes as a result of changes in Assurant's client base and the need to better leverage its servicing assets, said Assurant's president of lending solutions John Frobose.
"As our clients adapt to changes in the mortgage industry, it's important that we in turn adapt to our clients' needs," Frobose said. "Our large, state-of-the-art centers in Georgia are centrally located, with the size, scale and technology necessary to grow with our clients and serve their customers efficiently."
Assurant's two Duluth locations include a new 70,000-square-foot service center that opened in January at Breckinridge Boulevard and Old Norcross Road and a 120,000-square-foot service center on Commerce Drive.
Jim Sykes, Assurant's director of external communications in Duluth, said the company recently acquired an additional 15,500 square feet at the Commerce site, which makes it the sole tenant of that building now.
"We have partially occupied the Commerce Drive site for 10 years and recently extended the lease to 2019," Sykes said in an e-mail to the Daily Post.
Additionally, he said the company will be hiring for a number of positions as a result of the relocation. Some of these positions include customer care, insurance processing, research, loss draft, mailroom and training. The first round of hiring begins in about 30 days and the company is now taking applications. Open positions for the Duluth centers, as well as other Assurant locations, are posted on www.assurant.jobs and in the careers section of www.assurantspecialtyproperty.com.
