LAWRENCEVILLE - Some local retailers are showing their appreciation for teachers during Georgia's annual sales tax holiday.
Wal-Mart stores will open teacher-only checkout lanes from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, and Staples locations will host a Teacher Appreciation Day on Saturday, giving the first 100 teachers who visit a store from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. an EcoEasy bag of supplies such as notepads and writing tools.
"Every year, teachers reach into their own pockets to pay for classroom supplies. They contribute generously and selflessly, putting their students' well-being above themselves," said Jevin Eagle, executive vice president of merchandising and marketing for Staples.
"Now in its sixth consecutive year, Teacher Appreciation Day is our way of showing teachers how much they are valued and helping them get the supplies they need to do their job," he added.
Staples is offering 25-cent deals on BIC Matic mechanical pencils, Elmer's school glue, index cards, cap erasers, sliding pencil cases and pencil sharpeners through Saturday. The office products company is also offering teachers a Copy & Print promotion throughout the back-to-school season of 5 cent black-and-white copies of classroom materials.
