Youth Roundup: Wolves claim World Series championship

The Buford Wolves 9U team won the World Series in Charlotte, N.C., on July 12.

The Wolves finished fourth in the Greater Gwinnett Baseball League tournament, won the sub state tournament in Monroe to earn a spot in the state tournament in Conyers in June. They placed second at state.

After one loss in pool play at the World Series, the Wolves were seeded No. 2. In bracket play they were 4-1, beating the Yadkin All-Stars twice to win the championship.

Team members are Grant James, Spencer Starkweather, A.J. Hendricks, Matthew Olmstead, Brandon Brittlem, Jake Brittle, Noah Ledford, Brandon Trefren, Will Dague, Peyton Vinson, Trey Adams, Griffin Price, Garrison Price and Davis Weaver.

The team is coached by Kenneth Ledford, Brian James, Bob Trefren and Scott Weaver.


Hawks take second at World Series

The Mill Creek Hawks Gold 10U travel baseball team finished second at the USSSA World Series in Kingsport, Tenn., on July 15-19.

The Hawks went 5-1 with the only loss in the championship game to No. 1 nationally ranked Indiana Hoosier Hill Titans 4-2, which featured teams from Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee.

Team members are Steven Casey, Chase Gonzalez, Josh Branch, Mike Cherwenka, Cole McCue, Chase Zellers, Ridge Stanton, J.D. Yepez and Cole Wroble. The team is coached by Dave Stanton, Mike Cherwenka, Luis Yepez and Steve Casey.

Bulldogs place ninth at Cooperstown

The North Gwinnett Bulldogs, who play out of George Pierce Park, finished ninth out of 104 teams in a tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y., from June 26 through July 3.

After going 5-1 in pool play, the team played hard to make the Sweet 16 round. After a hard fought game the Bulldogs fell to the nationally ranked East Cobb Astros 6-2.

Team members are Alex Hartz, Bryan Gropp, Mitchell Adams, Blake Sangster, Josh Powers, Wesley Bucher, Robert Puccariello, Randal Watson, Parker Stevens, Parker Seacrest and Barrett Willis. Hartz went into the Cooperstown record book for tying the single game record of four home runs in four consecutive at-bats.

The team is coached by Kim Bucher, Nick Purrariello, John Hartz and John Willis.

Eagles place second at USSSA World Series

The Collins Hill Eagles Black continued their tournament success with a second place finish in the USSSA 1 U World Series in Pace, Florida.

The Eagles took on teams from Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama in the 32-team bracket.

Collins Hill won only one of its three pool games, which put them in the 26th seed position. When bracket play began, the Eagles came alive with power hitting and the pitching staff allowed only 3.6 runs per game before the finals to finish 6-2 in bracket play. The Eagles lost to the Gulf Coast Bulldogs in bracket play and in the finals.

Team members are Tim Jacoby, Canyon Slade, Derek Eder, Sam Hudson, Crae LeBlanc, Michael Germano, Tyler Hopkins, Whitney Leland, Jordan Adcox, Luke Wilson and Ryan Nelson.

The team is coached by Chad Adcox, Thornton Hopkins and Neil Hudson.

Blue Devils win GGBL title

The 13U Norcross Blue Devils defeated Peachtree Ridge for the Greater Gwinnett Baseball League championship for June 13.

Team members are Trey Mannion, Andrew Lightle, Justin Henderson, Chase Waters, Timmy Desmond, Jackson O'Brien, Griffin Bone, Griffin Helms, Sam Carver, Devin Geraghty , Jascanel Ferreras and Jackson Williams.

The team is coached by Paul Mannion, Kevin Henderson, Jim Lightle and Edward Waters.
