Barrow County CFO resigns
LAWRENCEVILLE - Barrow County's chief financial officer resigned effective today, after a suspension on allegations of being untruthful with the Board of Commissioners.
According to an agreement that has not yet been signed, officials agreed to Beth Horacek's attorney fees and six months of insurance, as well as her accrued personal leave time.
The agreement also stipulates that only a neutral reference for Horacek would be given to any prospective employers, and "documents related to events leading up to the separation" will be redacted from her personnel file.
Fire damages mobile home
LAWRENCEVILLE - Firefighters knocked down a fire in a vacant Lawrenceville mobile home in about 15 minutes Wednesday night.
A passerby reported the blaze at Herrington Road and Miss Irene Lane about 8 p.m., and responding firefighters contained it to the bedroom where it started, Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.
No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation, Rutledge said.
