Mr. B. A. Butch Appling, age 88, of Dacula, GA and the Hog Mountain Community passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Grace West Appling; parents, Samuel and Odessa Appling; sisters, Joyce Wyatt and Alice Waltz; and brothers, Tince Appling, Ray Appling, Huey Appling and Fay Appling. He is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Mark Crowell, Buford, GA, Claudette and David Miller, Hoschton, GA, and Alice and Robbie Carver, Dacula, GA; grandchildren, Andy and Leila Holbrook, Amanda Holbrook and fiancé, Mitch Parker, Mark Atkinson, Autumn Atkinson, and Leilah Miller; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dora Appling, Douglasville, GA, Betty and Mark Hughes, Lawrenceville, GA, Bobbie and Winford Gower, Dacula, GA, and Claudean Williams, Auburn, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Appling was born August 17, 1920 in Fulton County, GA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines having served in World War II in the 4th Marine Division and having received a Purple Heart in Iwo Jima. He participated in Five Invasions in the military. He was a retired steel worker. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Gaddis officiating. Interment will follow in Hog Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Dacula, GA with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Arrangements by: Junior E.
