Hardy Lee Delay, Jr.

Mr. Hardy Lee DeLay Jr. age 85 of Suwanee, Ga. died July 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his sons Hardy Lee DeLay III and Randy Lawrence DeLay, and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances L. “Wally” DeLay; daughters-in-law, Kathy DeLay, Dacula, Ann DeLay, Dunwoody; grandson, Hardy & Ramona DeLay IV, Cumming; granddaughter, Kimberly & John Nielson, Utah; brother & sister-in-law, Ted & Helen DeLay, Jacksonville and 9 great grandchildren. Mr. DeLay was a wonderful, larger than life individual, who loved model trains, photography, and whenever he and his wife Wally could get away, they especially enjoyed traveling the USA as members of the Good Sams Club. He served on the Planning and Zoning Board for the city of Suwanee for over 22 years and was Zoning Commissioner for 20 years. Greenspace was of utmost importance to the DeLay family. His Legacy will live on in a 20 plus acre Hardy DeLay Nature Park in Suwanee, GA. Mr. DeLay retired from both Southern Bell and the U.S. Navy. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was constructing his own home with the help of his two sons, using unique features, such as, Wormy Chestnut wood and some of the last stone from the Stone Mountain Quarry. A Graveside service will be held Sunday July 26, 2009 at 2:00PM at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens.
