One dead, one injured in Duluth house fire

DULUTH - One woman is dead and a man is injured after a Friday evening house fire.

Duluth police and Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the residence in the 2900 block of Ennfield Lane at about 7:49 p.m. after neighbors dialed 911.

Upon arrival, emergency workers found the home engulfed in flames and the man, suffering from burns, in the front yard. Firefighters immediately entered the home and found the woman dead.

Fire department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said there are unconfirmed reports that a child was in the home.

"We're still investigating but have pretty much determined that that is not the case," Rutledge said. "We've gotten some conflicting information and are trying to piece it all together."

The victims remained unidentified at press time.

While battling the blaze, a firefighter suffered a "medical emergency" and was taken to the hospital, Rutledge said. He is expected to be OK.

Rutledge said Gwinnett police crime scene technicians have been called in as per protocol.

"That is standard on all fatal house fires," he said. "They come in and help us process and document the scene."

The fire's cause is undetermined and still under investigation, Rutledge said.
