Church opens at new location in Dacula

DACULA - The former Living Word Assembly of God in Lilburn will reopen at its new location in Dacula on Sunday with a fresh vision and a renewed mission to reach the world with its message.

Under its new name, the First Assembly of God of Gwinnett, the congregation envisions a more multicultural outreach to the community coupled with significant community involvement, Pastor Guy Howell said.

"Part of that vision is reaching northeast Gwinnett County, Barrow County and Walton County," said Howell, noting that the new location serves all three locales.

The new location can seat about 300, and the building rests on nearly 18 acres of land. The church also has a community food bank for families in need. Future plans are in the works for a walking trail over a mile in length around the perimeter of the land, development of an outdoor athletic facility and allocation of land for a community gardening plot.

"We will have a community gardening plot, which will allow people to have a couple or three rows of land to graze," Howell said. "There will be no charge for that."

The Assembly boasts a cross-cultural congregation and wireless translation equipment. Howell notes immediate plans to interpret church services into Korean and Spanish with future intentions to expand into additional translated languages.

"While I'm preaching, it's being simultaneously translated into Korean and Spanish," said Howell, adding that the translators could hold services in other languages while located in another part of the building.

The services incorporate contemporary praise and worship music in a vibrant and upbeat manner. Howell mentioned the instrumentation of guitars, drums and keyboards in services.

Regular services will begin on Sunday with Sunday School or Christian education at 9:45 a.m., followed by traditional worship at 10:45 a.m.

On July 26, regular worship services will be followed by a 1:30 p.m. celebration of dedication. Lunch will be served to all attendees free of charge.

First Assembly of God of Gwinnett, with its new facility, is located at 1453 Downing Creek Road in Dacula. For more information, call 404-512-1709.
