Minors get all-star turn

Teams from Class AAA International and Pacific Coast leagues will follow their major league peers with their All-Star game tonight in Portland, Ore.

Gwinnett Braves Barbaro Canizares, Brook Conrad and Luis Valdez all made the IL's team in tonight's 10 p.m. game on ESPN2, but of those three only Canizares will play. Brooks Conrad was called up to Atlanta in place of Kelly Johnson and was replaced on the All-Star roster by Wes Timmons. Valdez, a reliever, made the squad but was also called up to Atlanta following the trade of Jeff Francoeur and will not be replaced on the IL team's roster.

Canizares is fresh off a 1-for-2, one RBI performance on Sunday in the Futures Game in St. Louis and Timmons enters the game on a 36-game on base streak, best in the IL.

For Canizares and Timmons, the return to everyday basell happens fast. Gwinnett continues its season in Scranton, Pa. at 7 p.m. on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the start of the All-Star game in Portland, Ore.
