LAWRENCEVILLE - A woman involved in a domestic shooting in April has died from medical complications, police said.
Joy Pink, 48, succumbed to injuries on June 27 suffered when she was shot in her Cagle Court home on April 3. After receiving a 911 call, police found Pink and her ex-husband, 53-year-old Derrick Pink, inside the burning home. Each had been shot. Both were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in critical but stable condition. The couple were reportedly still living at the home, though court records show their divorce was finalized in May 2008. Joy Pink filed a dispossessory warrant - an eviction action - in November 2008, which was granted by a judge, records show. An affidavit for failure to comply was filed on Feb. 4, 2009. The Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the case a homicide and investigators believe Derrick Pink shot his ex-wife, then himself. Derrick Pink, who police said is a quadriplegic as a result of the shooting, was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It is unclear whether charges will be upgraded. "The investigator's report has been forwarded to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office," said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman.
