Charles T. Marquis, age 83 of Lawrenceville passed into the Lords grace surrounded by family July 9, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 24, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. A son of a miller, “Chuck” grew up in Van Buren, Maine. He was a pipefitter by trade for most of his life, and had worked in the building industry since 1939 and was a lifetime member of U. A. Pipefitters & Steamfitters L. U. 582 in Santa Ana, California. He was a homebuilder in Lawrenceville after moving there in 1982 but will be best remembered as a familiar figure in his crumpled fishing hat as the City of Lawrenceville Building Inspector for several years beginning in 1986. Known as “Chucky-Baby” to many, he will be fondly remembered for his gentle personality and sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Marquis. He is survived by a daughter, Paula Palmer and son -in-law, Jim Palmer of St. Regis Falls, NY, a daughter, Dorothy Sanderson of Buford, GA, a son, Timothy Marquis and daughter-in-law, Debra Marquis of Lawrenceville, GA, a daughter, Annette Marquis of Fort Bragg, CA, a daughter, Jackie Marquis of Palm Harbor, FL, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was always a sound giver of sage advice to all of his children and grandchildren, the most recent of which was - “Don't ever get old.” Something he was able to avoid in mind and spirit. Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville with Father Roberto Herrera serving as Celebrant.
