LAKE LANIER - The woman who drowned in Lake Lanier over the weekend has been identified as a 23-year-old Stone Mountain woman.
Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokesman Rick Lavender said Ngoc Minh Vo died trying to help a child who was having problems in the water. "I know she went in to help a young child who slipped off a flotation device of some sort," Lavender said. The 6-year-old boy was reportedly a relative. According to reports, Vo was in a boat with her family at about 3:50 p.m. Sunday on the southeast side of the lake near Van Pugh South Park when she went into the water and didn't resurface. Hall County marine rescue personnel responded and searched for about 12 minutes before finding Vo in about eight feet of water. The woman was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville and placed on life support. She died Monday morning, reports said. The child, who remains unidentified, was resuscitated and taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to be evaluated.More like this story
