Only one Gwinnett Braves earned enough votes to make Class AAA All-Star game roster, but the team sent a league-best three to represent International League on July 15.
Barbaro Canizares was one of the 13 elected players to the All-Star game and will play first base. Teammates Brooks Conrad and Luis Valdez will join Canizares in Portland, Ore., as two of the 15 players selected to the team from the league office. Conrad will play second base and Valdez will pitch from the bullpen. Columbus and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre also sent three players to the All-Star Game. Canizares, who made the team in 2008, is hitting .325 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs so far this season and he spent a short stint with the Atlanta Braves, playing in four games and batting .235. Reliever Valdez is 3-3 with 13 saves in 33 appearances with a 3.14 ERA and Conrad is batting .259 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs. Conrad has played every infield position and one game in the outfield for the G-Braves. The leading vote getter was Lehigh Valley starting pitcher Clay Buchholz who is 5-1 with a 1.90 ERA for the Boston Red Sox minor league team. The All-Star game begins at 10 p.m. on July 15 and will air on ESPN2 with the winner earning home-field advantage in the Bricktown Showdown Triple-A Championship Game in Oklahoma City this September.
