LAWRENCEVILLE - Authorities Sunday canceled a Mattie's Call issued last week after they located the 14-year-old Lawrenceville girl in Fulton County.
Police in Sandy Springs said they received a phone call from Aleshea Penn telling them where she was and that she was staying with an acquaintance. Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said investigators went to the location and found Penn, who is believed to have the mental capacity of an 11-year-old, unharmed. Prior to her phone call to police, it had been nearly a week since Penn's grandmother, her legal guardian, saw her last. The teen was reportedly seen with a man in the apartment complex on Jan. 19 and had told people in Ohio, where her mother lives, that her mother was coming to pick her up. Schiralli said investigators do not suspect foul play in the incident. Penn is in the custody of The Division of Family and Children Services pending further investigation.More like this story
