LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett investigators have arrested three men they said have been stealing vehicles, changing the identification numbers and selling them out of Atlanta-area parking lots.
Carlos Arturo Miranda, 37, of Norcross; Mardoque Sanchez Mejia, 48; and David Fuentes Mejia, 18, both of Wallace, N.C., were charged Thursday with several counts including theft by receiving a motor vehicle and possessing a vehicle with an altered VIN.
Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said as part of their investigation, auto theft investigators contacted DeKalb County police earlier in the week. In all, nine vehicles were stolen and subsequently recovered in the Atlanta area, four of them in Gwinnett.
All three men are being held at the Gwinnett County Jail. Records show Miranda is being held on surety bonds totaling $18,400 while bond was denied for both Mejias.
David Mejias, a Honduras native, is also being held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Investigators are asking that anyone who bought a vehicle from these men, or who has any more information about the men, call Investigator R. Hoagland at 770-513-5374.
