LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett authorities have arrested a retired federal employee and charged him with child molestation.
Lawrence Everett Mullings, 54, of Sugar Hill, is accused of three separate acts of molestation investigators said occurred between Sept. 1, 2008, and Dec. 3, 2008. According to arrest warrants, Mullings inappropriately touched a girl under 16 years old through her clothing "with the intent to arouse or satisfy the sexual desires of said accused."
According to arrest records, Mullings retired from the Architect of the Capitol, a federal agency responsible for construction, maintenance and modification of the U.S. Capitol complex. It is unclear what his position was within the agency.
Mullings was arrested Tuesday by Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies, though warrants had been procured Jan. 14. The warrants had been sealed by a Gwinnett magistrate pending their service because investigators believed the ongoing investigation would be threatened and Mullings, a Washington, D.C. native, would "flee jurisdiction" if he knew a warrant had been issued.
Mullings is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
