Election (Blu-ray)
Movie: 3 1/2 stars out of 4 Disc: 3 stars out of 4 Following on the heels of his equally sardonic "Citizen Ruth," director Alexander Payne's lethally barbed satire "Election" takes dead aim at the absurdity of petty politics and how it completely consumes some people. Tracy (Reese Witherspoon) is an overachieving but unpopular junior running for class president whose opponent is the well liked but largely dim jock Paul (Chris Klein). Their teacher Jim (Matthew Broderick, as the anti-Ferris Bueller) has strong opinions on who he thinks should emerge victorious and will do almost anything to sway the vote. Sadly, the only extra is Payne's rather blasé commentary. What it really needs is a deleted scenes/gag reel. It must have been real fun to act in this movie and try to keep a straight face the entire time. Technical specifications: aspect ratio: Widescreen (2.35:1), audio: English, French and Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.0), subtitles: English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Special features include: Optional commentary by Payne (Paramount, $29.99.)More like this story
