SNELLVILLE - Police on Tuesday identified a Snellville woman killed in a collision with a police cruiser this week as Mollie Garlington.
Garlington, 61, died Monday morning when she pulled in front of a marked Chevy Impala driven by a Gwinnett police officer in Snellville, according to police. The officer, a two-year veteran assigned to the South Precinct, was transported with minor injuries to Gwinnett Medical Center. Police have not identified the officer. Garlington later died at Eastside Medical Center. The collision happened about 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Centerville Highway and Chesterfield Court. The car driven by the officer, heading northbound on the highway, T-boned Garlington's Dodge Intrepid as she attempted to turn left, Spellman said. Both the officer and Garlington, who was traveling alone, wore seat belts. Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said there's no indication that either driver was speeding. The incident remains under investigation. Whether the officer will remain on active duty depends on results of the investigation, she said.More like this story
