Gwinnett Senior Leadership taking applications

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Senior Leadership, sponsored and hosted by Gwinnett Technical College, is now accepting nominations and applications for its new 2009-10 class, which will begin in August.

The nomination deadline is June 5, and the application deadline is July 10.

Tom Travis, vice president of student services at Gwinnett Tech, is Gwinnett Senior Leadership's new general chair and will work with Elliott Brack, chair, and Bill Barry, vice chair, in seating the new class. The current class, the group's largest ever at 25, will complete their studies and graduate in May.

The curriculum for the upcoming class will include the following programs: Welcome Reception, Aug. 23; Orientation Day, Sept. 23; Justice Day, Oct. 21; Education Day, Nov. 18; Power Day, Dec. 16; Growth Day, Jan. 27; Government Day, Feb. 24; Regional Day, March 24; Health & Human Services Day, April 21; and Graduation Day, May 19.

Dacula student wins "Free Food for a Year"

DACULA - A Dacula High School student was presented with a "Free Food for a Year" coupon after making a half-court basket Jan. 6 during the Sonic Half-Court Challenge at the Dacula-Shiloh boys varsity basketball game.

Kyle Korom took home the second "Free Food for a Year" coupon this season. The coupon was presented by Sonic Drive-In on Stone Mountain Highway in Lilburn in conjunction with the Shiloh High School basketball program.

The Sonic Half-Court Challenge is a fundraiser that allows anyone in the gym to make a $5 donation to the school athletic department in exchange for an attempt at making a basket from the half-court line for the coupon. For a $1 donation, people can attempt to make a basket from the 3-point line for a free meal at Sonic Drive-In.
