Prep Roundup: Duluth boys stun Peachtree Ridge

SUWANEE - Duluth's boys jumped out to a 16-1 lead Tuesday night against Peachtree Ridge and never trailed as the Wildcats upended the Lions 70-60 in Region 7-AAAAA action.

Jarrett Christian scored 20 points to lead Duluth while Terry Charles finished with 17 points. The Wildcats (5-11, 3-6) also picked up 14 points from Armand Tatum.

Peachtree Ridge (9-5, 6-2) was led by a game-high 22 points from Khalid Mutakabbir. Corrie Heyward finished with 14 points, while C.J. Blackwell added 12 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mill Creek 50, Northview 47

HOSCHTON - The Mill Creek defense limited Northview to just 12 points in the second half to help carry the Hawks to a 50-47 win over the Titans (5-11, 3-6) on Tuesday in Region 7-AAAAA.

Mill Creek, which trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, was led by 11 points each from Kyle Speller and Brandon Hayman. Zach Landis also scored 10 points as the Hawks improved to 6-8 overall and 5-4 in the region.

Norcross 64, South Forsyth 54

CUMMING - Adrian Hubbard was one of four Norcross players in double figures with 16 points Tuesday in helping the Blue Devils to a 64-54 win over South Forsyth (6-9, 4-5).

Taariq Muhammad also scored 14 points for Norcross (11-1, 8-0), while Jeremy Lamb and Denzail Jones each finished with 11 points.

South 75, Berkmar 57

SNELLVILLE - Mario Vasser of South Gwinnett led all scorers with 19 points Tuesday as the Comets streaked past Berkmar 75-57 in Region 8-AAAAA.

South improved to 12-3 overall and 7-0 in the region. Berkmar (9-6, 4-3) was led by Aamir Kelliehan's 15 points.

Dacula 74, Parkview 63

LILBURN - Dacula's Brian Cole scored 33 points on Tuesday to lead the Falcons to a 74-63 win over Parkview in a Region 8-AAAAA game.

Dacula (8-5, 4-3) also picked up 16 points from Altony Nathan and 14 points from Darius Holloway. Parkview (4-12, 1-6) was led by 23 points from Rachard Lofton.

Brookwood 68, Shiloh 63

SNELLVILLE - Five Broncos hit four double digits in points as Brookwood knocked off Shiloh 68-63 on Tuesday in Region 8-AAAAA.

Thomas HIgginbotham led the Broncos with 18 points while Clint Cooper scored 15. Also helping Brookwood (11-5, 3-4) were Chris Bolden with 13, Lavon Hooks with 12 and Sean Capps with 10 points.

Central 70, Grayson 49

LAWRENCEVILLE - Central Gwinnett went on a 22-11 run in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game with Grayson to pull away for a 70-49 win over the Rams.

Jordan Adams led Central (8-7, 3-4) with 15 points. Prinz Barimah added 11 points while Ayo Madamidola finished with 10 points.

Grayson (6-10, 3-4) was led by a game-best 18 points from Javarris Smith.

Providence 80, Tech High 45

ATLANTA - Providence moved its record to 10-5 on Tuesday night with an 80-45 win over Tech High.

Westley Hinton scored 16 points to lead the Stars while Ryan McClanahan added 14 points.

Wesleyan 74, St. Francis 41

NORCROSS - Griffin Schamp poured in 26 points to lead the Wolves in a 74-41 rout of St. Francis on Tuesday night in Region 7A-A.

Wes Caver also had a solid game for Wesleyan (12-5, 5-1) with 16 points.

Hebron 72, Towns Co. 56

DACULA - Hebron picked up its first Region 8-A win of the season and snapped a 10-game losing streak on Tuesday by beating Towns County 72-56.

Shawn Gibbs had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lions (3-10, 1-5) while Anthony Stewart added 20 points and 18 boards. Trey Saxton also played well with 15 points and three assists while Jeremy Bell helped with nine points and six assists.

Loganville 65, Monroe Area 50

MONROE - Tyler Gunnett scored a game-high 20 points to lead three players in double figures in the Red Devils' victory.

Stephen Cochran added 17 points and John Harris chipped in 13 for Loganville, which improved to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in Region 8-AAAA.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mill Creek 62, Northview 39

HOSCTHON - Mill Creek stayed perfect in Region 7-AAAAA on Tuesday with a solid 62-39 triumph over Northview (6-9, 1-8).

Tia Williams and Jasmine Sublett each scored 11 to lead Mill Creek (13-1, 9-0), while Moneshia Simmons finished with 11 rebounds and eight points. Northview's Sydney Wallace led all players in scoring with 15 points.

Berkmar 57, South 36

SNELLVILLE - Berkmar improved to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in Region 8-AAAAA on Tuesday with a 57-36 win over South Gwinnett.

Tyra Smith led the Patriots with a game-high 16 points, while Brittany McDonald chipped in with 10 points. South (6-8, 2-5) was led by eight points from Lindsay Nagy.

Shiloh 46, Brookwood 38

SNELLVILLE - Shiloh evened its Region 8-AAAAA record at 4-4 on Tuesday by posting a 46-38 win over Brookwood.

Tajshiana Westbrook led the Generals (8-9 overall) with 13 points and eight rebounds while Pilar Smith added 10 points with five assists.

Autumn Adams scored 12 to lead Brookwood (9-7, 4-3).

Norcross 64, South Forsyth 38

CUMMING - Tiffany Clarke of Norcross had a huge game Tuesday night with 18 points, six rebounds, five blocks and four steals as the Blue Devils beat South Forsyth 64-38 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Briana Jordan added 16 points and seven assists for Norcross (11-4, 8-1), while Bianca O'Neal helped with 10 points. South Forsyth dropped to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in the region.

Duluth 57, Peachtree Ridge 44

SUWANEE - Three Duluth players scored in double digits, led by 14 points from Mykala Walker, as the Wildcats beat rival Peachtree Ridge 57-44 on Tuesday in Region 7-AAAAA.

Aliya Thomas added 12 points and Daphne Adebayo followed up with 11 points for Duluth (11-4, 6-3).

Peachtree Ridge (2-6, 6-8) was led by 12 points from Brittany Jack and 10 points from D'Atra Sawyer.

Wesleyan 89, St. Francis 27

NORCROSS - Anne Marie Armstrong led all players with 26 points Tuesday in helping Wesleyan (14-3) cruise to an 89-27 win over St. Francis.

Wesleyan's other key players were Erin Hall (16 points), Chantel Kennedy (12 points) and Aysia McKenzie (eight points, eight assists).

Providence 66, Tech High 34

ATLANTA - Stephanie Cailor scored 14 points and Amelia Allen added 13 more Tuesday as Providence topped Tech High 66-34.

Providence (10-6, 1-1) also received 12 points from Erika Gotfredson.

Loganville 67, Monroe Area 34

MONROE - Loganville improved to 11-6 on Tuesday night by beating Monroe Area 67-34.

Enisha Donley led the Red Devils with 14 points.

WRESTLING

GAC beats Buford, Avondale and Pace

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian improved its dual record to 11-8 with wins over Buford (45-33), Avondale (54-18) and Pace (60-6) on Tuesday.

Chip Glaser (125 pounds) led GAC with three pins while Locke Hoover (119) and Joe Kaziow (215) each had two pins. Scoring one pin each for the Spartans were Travis Elrod (130), Will Hemby (135), Jared Hemmings (152) and Drew Schoepf (189).

SWIMMING/DIVING

Norcross sweeps Central

NORCROSS - Norcross' swimming and diving team defeated the Central Gwinnett boys 202.5-83.5 and the girls 203-96 this past weekend.

Norcross' event winners were: Sean Bagent (200 freestyle, 1 minute, 54.78 seconds and 50 free, 22.34), Elizabeth Evinger (200 free, 2:27.56), Andrew Feeney (200 individual medley, 2:15.70 and 100 breaststroke, 1:00.29), Becky Berry (200 IM, 2:44.39), Meghan Feeney (50 free, 27.15 and 100 free, 59.61), Richard Krause (diving, 241.45), Connor Stickney (100 butterfly, 53.44 and 100 backstroke, 1:00.68), Chelsea Dunn (100 fly, 1:12.85), Dan Heckman (100 free, 52.91), Scott Aron (500 free, 5:23.09) and Catherine Thunhorst (100 back, 1:10.71).

Central's first-place finishers were: Victoria Monetta (diving, 212.50), Virginia Bradbury (500 free, 6:44.49) and Valerie Kearny (100 breast, 1:21.83).
