LAWRENCEVILLE - A Lawrenceville man is facing animal cruelty charges after police said he seriously injured a puppy.
Cameron David Smith, 21, was arrested by Gwinnett County police Saturday on one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals. According to the arrest warrant, police believe that between midnight and 1 a.m. Thursday, Smith "did knowingly and maliciously cause physical harm" to a 4-month-old black Labrador retriever by "rendering a part of such animal's body (right rear leg) useless by throwing or kicking the animal and breaking the leg and causing several cuts."
The incident allegedly occurred at Smith's Providence Run Court home.
Jail records show Smith was released from the Gwinnett County Jail on a $2,950 surety bond. A special condition of his bond forbids Smith from coming in contact with any animal.
