Apartment fire scorches office, clubhouse
LILBURN - An early morning fire Monday at a Lilburn apartment complex at 825 Dickens Road scorched the property's leasing office and clubhouse, an official said.
Passing motorists reported the 5:14 a.m. fire at the Villas at Indian Trail Apartments. Firefighters were forced to back out of the building when it partially collapsed. The structure is a total loss, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
It took 35 firefighters about 45 minutes to render it under control, he said.
The office was closed at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The exact cause is under investigation, Rutledge said.
Fire destroys vacant home
SNELLVILLE - A predawn fire Monday destroyed a vacant home in the 1900 block of Fabersham Drive in Snellville.
Neighbors reported the burning two-story house at 3:12 a.m., and firefighters had the blaze under control about 50 minutes later, Rutledge said.
The home is believed to be a total loss.
"We're fortunate that no one lived in the house and that no injuries - civilian or firefighters - were reported," Rutledge said.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
