· Where: 2918 Buford Drive (on the south side of Interstate 85)
· What: BrandsMart USA
· When construction began: August
· When will construction be completed: Late summer
According to Larry Levine, a spokesman from BrandsMart's corporate office in Florida, like all buildings in their family of electronics discount stores, this new 117,016-square-foot facility will achieve "maximum efficiency." And to that effect Levine said this building will be the first commercial LEED-certified structure in all of North Georgia.
Because of the ongoing drought happening in much of the state, Levine said the building will use water in a unique way, both inside and out through the use of underground cisterns and reclaimed water.
"We'll be using none of the municipalities' water supply," he said.
Levine also said the facility will employ the practice of "xeriscaping," which means using drought resistant plant material. He said the plants will all be labeled and that the store plans on offering programs to school children in order to "show them what is possible when you use your imagination."
