SUWANEE - The Gwinnett County Board of Education on Thursday approved eight principal appointments, including new leadership at Grayson High and an interim principal for Central Gwinnett High.
Jane Stegall, a former Brookwood High principal who serves the school district as a principal mentor, will lead Central Gwinnett High for the remainder of the school year. The Lawrenceville school's former principal, Valerie Clark, retired in December.
David Hopson, an assistant principal at Peachtree Ridge High, will begin his new role Monday as the principal of Grayson High. The school's current principal, Keith Chaney, is leaving to open Mountain View High.
Hopson, who has a master's degree in educational leadership, previously served as an assistant principal at Dacula High and as principal of Northview High in Dothan, Ala. He began his career in education as a teacher in Texas in 1981.
The six other appointments are effective July 1.
Devon Williams, principal at Shiloh Middle, has been chosen to open Couch Middle in the Grayson cluster. Williams, who has a specialist's degree in occupational studies educational leadership, previously served as an administrator at J.P. McConnell Middle and a teacher at McConnell and Sweetwater middle schools.
Crystal Collins, a data administrator at Rebecca Minor Elementary, will replace Donna Ledford at J.C. Magill Elementary. Ledford is leaving to open Starling Elementary.
Christina Wimmer, an assistant principal at Parsons Elementary, will serve as Minor Elementary's new principal, as Barbara Ergle is moving to open Woodward Mill Elementary. Wimmer is a member of the 2009 Quality-Plus Leader Academy, the school district's training program for aspiring principals.
Amy Bryan, who serves as an assistant principal at both Riverside Elementary and Dacula Elementary, was named principal of Sycamore Elementary. Wanda Law is leaving to lead North Gwinnett Middle. Bryan is also a member of the 2009 Quality-Plus Leader Academy.
Susan Downs, an assistant principal at Lanier Middle, will become principal of Snellville Middle, as Linda Boyd has been picked to open Twin Rivers Middle. Downs is a graduate of the 2007 Quality-Plus Leader Academy.
Dorothy Parker-Jarrett, an assistant principal at South Gwinnett High, will replace Dana Pugh as principal of Summerour Middle. Pugh will open Bay Creek Middle. Parker-Jarrett is a graduate of the 2007 Quality-Plus Leader Academy.
