BUFORD - Gwinnett authorities are investigating the death of a 3-month-old baby.
According to reports, police responded to a "person dead call" at about 9:42 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 1000 block of Level Creek Road. They discovered the infant female deceased at that time, they said. A preliminary investigation indicated the child's mother had put the child in a playpen and upon checking on the child later, found her not breathing. Police said the mother called 911, and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the home. The Gwinnett County Police Homicide Unit, along with the Medical Examiner's Office, is conducting a routine investigation into the cause and circumstances of the infant's death. Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said the investigation is ongoing and additional information may be released at a later time. Department spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli added that the homicide investigation is indeed routine. "It's a precaution we take," he said.More like this story
