Local theaters host improvisation troupes tonight

Improv's the word this weekend as two Gwinnett venues host improvisation groups.

The Aurora Theatre will welcome back its signature Funny Fridays act, the African-American improv comedy troupe The Blacktop Circus, with shows at 7:30 and 10 tonight. Each show will feature a group effort at improvisation using audience suggestions to turn them into scenes, songs, and sketches, followed by individual troop members performing stand-up routines.

Atlanta-based improv performance group Playing in Traffic will show off its talents, with the help of audience participation, at 8 p.m. today at the Red Clay Theatre. What started as a small class at the Professional Actors Studio in Atlanta in 2005 has blossomed into a group of 10 or so performers that became a full-fledged improv troupe in 2006. Playing in Traffic performs multiple shows a month at various metro Atlanta venues.
