Financial aid applications available
LAWRENCEVILLE - High school seniors seeking college financial aid are encouraged to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible beginning today.
The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To save time, applicants are encouraged to gather the documents they need, such as 2008 W-2 forms, current bank statements and 2008 Federal Income Tax Returns; print a FAFSA on the Web worksheet; apply for a personal identification number and note important deadlines.
Federal financial aid is available for students attending four-year, two-year, public, private, career or trade schools. The aid is intended to cover school expenses such as tuition, room and board, books and other supplies and transportation. Most students receive the aid because of financial need.
To find out about federal financial aid programs and your rights and responsibilities under these programs, read "Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid." The guide is available online at http://studentaid.ed.gov/guide. Free paper copies can be obtained by calling the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-4-FED-AID.
