LILBURN - One suspect is dead and another on the run after a home invasion Friday afternoon.
Police said that at about 5:16 p.m., they responded to a robbery-in-progress call at a Bob Hannah Drive home where preliminary investigations show two white men knocked on the door before entering the residence. Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said the homeowner saw the men from his window, but didn't recognize them and decided not to answer the door. After the men "forcefully breached" the door, Spellman said, the homeowner fired a weapon at both men, striking one near the doorway. The second suspect fled the scene on foot. Responding officers set up a perimeter and brought in K-9 units, but were unable to locate the suspect, Spellman said. The suspect who was shot died at the scene. Spellman said Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators have spoken to witnesses, but no description is available of the suspect. Police have not released a motive and said it is unclear if the suspects knew the homeowner. No charges have been filed against the homeowner at this point, Spellman said. The investigation is ongoing and further details could be released later. Police urge anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300.More like this story
